Former Maryland OL Tamarus Walker transfers to UConn
UConn Football fans are waking up to a nice surprise Wednesday morning, as Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Connecticut signed former Maryland OL Tamarus Walker.
A former three-star recruit, Walker chose to play for his hometown Terps after choosing the school over institutions like James Madison, Marshall, and Liberty, per 247Sports. UConn also gave Walker an offer in 2022.
“It was always my dream school, “ Walker said regarding Maryland. “Coming into [my] official visit, they really showed me love and I felt at home there. I’m recruiting all over the DMV to help us make something special here at Maryland.”
After redshirting in 2023, Walker suited up for the Terps in 2024, appearing in 9 games and helping block for the No. 3 passing offense in the Big Ten Conference, throwing for 275.7 ypg in 2024. His first of those nine games was ironically against the squad he’ll now be joining, the Connecticut Huskies.
Walker officially announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on April 14th and received an offer from the Huskies on April 16th.
Walker will now join an OL unit in Storrs looking to replace two major departures in Chase Lundt and Valentin Senn. When asked about replacing two major pieces like that on the offensive line, offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis mentioned how crucial the team’s depth at that position will be to continued success.
