Rapid Recap: UConn thumps Providence, 75-63
UConn men’s basketball traveled to Providence and turned in one of its most complete performances of the season, winning 75-63 at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
Providence started with a 4-0 lead, but the Huskies quickly took control. Solo Ball hit a few early threes before he sat with two fouls. But then Tarris Reed Jr. got going early and often and Hassan Diarra was dealing as the visitors gained the lead. The senior guard had eight assists at the break as he finished with 10 helpers on the day.
Reed Jr. had 15 points and eight rebounds at the half on his way to finishing with a career-high 24 and 18. He was getting offensive rebounds and second-chance points and also finished with four blocks on the day. The forward has been enjoying a productive stretch over the last four games.
Alex Karaban and Liam McNeeley got more involved across the final minutes of the first half as the Huskies pulled away to take an eight-point lead into the break. After a season where their play had been inconsistent, the Huskies were finding open looks, hitting their shots, and demonstrating an inside-out threat on their way to a commanding road victory.
UConn didn’t let up in the second half. Reed’s dominance continued while McNeeley, Karaban, and Ball kept up their scoring as well. Those four combined to score 69 of UConn’s 75 points as they captured the season sweep over Providence for the second year in a row.
The Huskies are back home for their final two games of the season: against Marquette on Wednesday and Seton Hall on Saturday, March 8th for the regular-season finale. The Marquette game tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and the Seton Hall contest tips at 2:30 p.m. on FOX.
