Sophomore F Youssouf Singare Enters the Transfer Portal
UConn’s sophomore center Youssouf Singare has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, seeking new opportunities. The 6’ 10”, 230-pound center from Bamako, Mali via Our Savior Lutheran of the Bronx saw minimal action during his tenure at UConn.
In the 2024-2025 season, he appeared in sixteen games, but only earned more than 5 minutes in four of them. His playing time was often dependant on foul trouble to Samson Johnson and Tarris Reed Jr. He also played 8 minutes in the game vs. Xavier that Samson missed due to the concussion protocol. He scored 6 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on the season.
A member of the 2023-2024 National Championship team, Singare has been noted as a source of energy and positivity for the Huskies, bringing a joyful presence to the team. His strong connections with teammates like Cam Spencer and Adama Sanogo provided fans with enjoyable moments off the court.
Singare's exit creates an additional vacancy in UConn's frontcourt after Samson Johnson exhausted his eligibility. With 2 centers leaving and only 1 freshman big coming in, UConn’s staff may look to the transfer portal for depth.
