The UConn Huskies have secured a key addition to their backcourt with the commitment of Silas Demary Jr., a transfer guard who spent his first two seasons at the University of Georgia. Demary Jr. chose UConn after visiting St. John’s and conducting an in-home meeting with Kentucky. BYU was also reported to be in strong contention for Silas’ services.

The former 4* recruit originally from Raleigh, NC started 69 of 70 games for Georgia over his 2 seasons in Athens. In 2023-2024, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. This past season he averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while leading Georgia to a #9 seed in the NCAA tournament. He shot 40% from the field, 37% from three, and 80% from the free-throw line.

“Silas Demary, in the past month, has played as well as just about any guard in college basketball. He decided to elevate his play, be more aggressive offensively. He probably should have been all-league, should have been All-SEC defensive team.”
- Georgia Coach Mike White in March 2025 to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Silas’ size, defensive tenacity, and offensive versatility should make him a seamless fit for Dan Hurley’s system. He has the ability to initiate the offense, play off the ball as a capable shooter, and defend multiple positions. His experience running the pick-and-roll, making smart decisions with the ball, and drawing fouls should translate well to UConn’s sophisticated and interchangeable offensive attack. His physical dimensions and style of play may draw comparisons to previous big distributors of the Hurley era such as Tristen Newton and Stephon Castle.

The Athletic ranked Silas Demary Jr. as the 9th best player to enter the transfer portal this cycle, while 247 Sports ranked him 7th. EvanMiya’s Transfer Rankings place him 11th among available transfers.

Demary Jr. has two years of eligibility remaining. The Huskies currently have at least five scholarships available if the team opted to use every scholarship of the new max of 15 for men’s basketball, pending further roster announcements. The staff will likely continue adding talent from the transfer portal to complement the returning core of the roster and the incoming top-5 recruiting class, all in an effort to bring another Big East title and National Championship to Storrs.
