Block C Adds Quartet in Portal

After a relatively quiet spring portal in April, May got off to a hot start, with  the Huskies picking up four commits from two DBs, a punter, and LB.

At EDGE/OLB, Antoineo Harris Jr joins from New Mexico, after spending prior years at Indiana State and JUCO. At UNM last season, Harris Jr totaled 29 tackles in ten games, including a season-high five in a 17-6 loss to Colorado State. He had two tackles for loss against Auburn. According to PFF, he generated 18 pressure situations, including eight QB hits and nine hurries. At Indiana State, Harris Jr appeared in 20 games over two seasons, recording 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and five PBUs. Prior to Indiana State, he did two seasons at Iowa Central CC, posting 24 tackles, six sacks, and one forced fumble. The Chicago native chose the Huskies over offers from Memphis, Ohio, Louisiana Tech, App State, and Georgia State.

The secondary is still an area that could use some shoring up after suffering heavy losses in the offseason, similar to LB, and Diondre Glover will help offset some of those losses. A former DII Honorable Mention All-American at Central Missouri, Glover spent one season there, totaling 22 tackles, two INTs and 17 defended passes. One of the INTs was a 65 yard pick six. After not playing in 2023, he totaled 17 tackles, two deflected passes, and one forced fumble for the Bulldogs in 2024. Despite not playing in 2023, he was teammates with current Husky RB Mel Brown. The Huskies will no doubt take someone with lockdown abilities, as he posted a well above-average rating of 76.0 on PFF, and had seven games where his tackle rating was above 74. He was targeted 24 times, in 246 coverage snaps, allowing 16 catches for 280 yards and 91 YAC. 51 of those yards came on one play in the season finale against Western Illinois.

UConn added another DB, this time a PWO from Georgetown, Diandre Harris. A teammate of fellow Hoya transfer Kolubah Pewee Jr, Harris joins Antoineo Harris Jr as Chicago natives. Harris played in five games in 2021, then eight in 2023 before becoming a regular part of the Hoya rotation, playing in eleven games this past season, recording 27 tackles, 2.5 for loss, a sack, and three pass deflections. He saved his best performance for last, notching six tackles and a TFL against Holy Cross. Despite being a PWO, he has game experience, and should challenge for playing time.

Special teams got in on the fun too, adding a punter from Memphis in Spencer Sullins. It’s unclear at this time if Sullins is on scholarship, but he will be a redshirt freshman this season, presumably competing to take over the starting role next year when current starter Connor Stutz departs. He saw no game time as a true freshman for the Tigers, but was a five star punter per Kohl’s Professional Camps, the 30th best punter nationally. At their camp, Sullins charted a 63 yard kickoff, and multiple 40+ yard punts averaging 4.15 seconds of hang time. “His ‘A’ ball on punts of 46 yards with 4.7 seconds of hang time allowed us to see he has the leg talent required to play at a high level in college,” says a comment on his Kohl’s page.
