After a second consecutive nine win season, UConn football has learned their 2025 bowl destination, and it’s one that should be familar to fans and players. That familiar destination is the Fenway Bowl in Boston, taking place on Saturday December 27th at Fenway Park at 2:15. The Fenway Bowl typically pits an ACC against an American team, but the American gave up their slot last year for the Huskies, and this year the ACC did the same. This will be the ninth bowl in UConn’s history, and the first bowl where they’ve made multiple appearances.

Last year’s game saw the Huskies defeat North Carolina 27-14, with the Husky defense allowing just one TD, a late UNC score with the game well out of reach. Much of the game’s intrigue was off the field, as legendary New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was announced as the Tar Heels coach days before the game. Belichick did not coach this game, nor did he attend, but it may not have made a difference, as UNC was without many starters who opted out, and UNC starting QB Jacoby Criswell was knocked out of the game after completing just one pass.

On the field, Joe Fagnano threw for 151 yards on 16-23 passing with a TD toss to Skyler Bell (3 catches for 77 yards), and TE Alex Honig. Mel Brown rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries, including a 47 yard rush on the first offensive play from scrimmage, and Cam Edwards added 74 yards on 17 carries. Defensively, Pryce Yates had a big game, with six tackles, a sack, and 3 TFLs. Belichick was so impressed that Yates entered the portal shortly after the game and committed to UNC. He missed this season due to injury.

For the Black Knights, another successful season for HC Jeff Monken, this being his seventh bowl game since he took over in West Point in 2014. At 6-5, Army still has this Saturday’s Army-Navy game to play, before beginning bowl prep. Army opened the season with a loss to FCS (although a very good FCS team) Tarleton State, then went on the road to defeat Kansas State a week later. They took American runner-up North Texas to OT, while defeating Charlotte, UAB, Temple, and UTSA, while also beating Air Force. After winning the American title last season and finishing ranked 21st, Army has taken a step back, but still are a tough team to prep for with their grit and option offense.

For the Huskies, this game will be a send-off for some of the best Huskies to don the uniform in the FBS era in Joe Fagnano, Skyler Bell, and Cam Edwards. Assuming they play in this game (we’ve heard no indication that they won’t), they will want to end their Husky careers on high notes. And with interim HC Gordon Sammis’ future unclear, he’ll look to get a win in his first game as a HC. HC Jim Mora, of course, left after the regular season finale for Colorado State, and the Huskies hired Toledo HC Jason Candle, who will be introduced Monday as the new head Husky.
