Following a brief period of FBS independence, UConn joined the Big East in 2004, a year early due to the departure of Miami and Virginia Tech. BC will remain in the conference for one season, leaving in 2005. The conference had 7 teams: BC, UConn, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and West Virginia, leading to playing 5 non-conference games in an 11 game schedule. The next year, Cincinnati, Louisville, and South Florida would join the league, rounding out the new Big East.
