Tarris Reed Jr. commits to UConn
Michigan transfer forward Tarris Reed Jr. has committed to UConn, the rising junior announced on social media. Last year as a sophomore on the Wolverines he averaged 9.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 26.5 MPG. Among some of his best performances of the season, he scored 20 points against Illinois at home and had 19 and 6 at Iowa, in addition to three double-doubles.
The 6-foot-10 Missouri native made an official visit with the Huskies this past weekend for the national championship parade in Hartford, where he was seen taking photos. His commitment comes just a few days later as he ostensibly has decided not to meet with the other schools in the picture.
Like every college team, UConn’s roster is in flux at the moment as every player with eligibility remaining has the opportunity to either go pro or transfer elsewhere if they feel a better situation exists. They’re losing two starters due to eligibility and at least one more with Donovan Clingan’s declaration for the NBA Draft. Steph Castle is a projected lottery pick and Alex Karaban will most likely be making a decision after testing the draft waters this offseason.
Hassan Diarra has indicated that he will announce his decision soon; he’s expected to be back. He and Samson Johnson have the potential to be elevated into starting roles next season. Johnson and Reed form a solid pair down low that could work as either 1a/1b situation or perhaps on the court together. More on that in the future.
