After gaining possession from the opening tip on Saturday night, St. John’s hit a jumper on its first possession. On the other side, Tarris Reed Jr. missed a contested attempt late in the shot clock before Oziyah Sellers hit a three to make it 5-0.
That start was not insurmountable, but then the mistakes started flowing. A Silas Demary Jr. turnover led to a Solo Ball foul on a Sellers three-point attempt, leading to three free throws and an 8-0 score.
