Clingan picks up 30th Double-Double of Season, Castle Breaks Down His Handles
Donovan Clingan
Bristol, Connecticut and Bristol Central High School have an awful lot to be proud of when it comes to Donovan Clingan. We are seeing the former Ram becoming an NBA superstar before our very own eyes.
On Monday, Clingan scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record his 29th double-double of the season and his fourth straight overall in the Portland Trail Blazers 114-95 win at the Brooklyn Nets.
Then on Wednesday, Clingan had one of the best games of his career (which is something I’ve written a few times over the past few weeks!), as he posted a career-high 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in just 25 minutes as the Blazers defeated the Indiana Pacers 127–119. Clingan, of course, also hauled in 13 rebounds, marking his 30th double-double of the season and his fifth straight overall.
Stephon Castle
It was a seesaw battle between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers on Monday in Los Angeles. The Spurs rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit and held off a late push after nearly blowing a 24-point lead, ultimately earning a 119–115 win thanks in part to Stephon Castle’s big-time playmaking once again.
Castle scored 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including 1-of-4 from beyond the arc and 4-of-6 from the line, while adding seven rebounds and eight assists in 36 minutes. The former Husky made yet another highlight reel play and he was asked about it after the game:
The Spurs continued their road trip the following night in Sacramento, where Castle finished with three points and 12 assists without committing a turnover in 22 minutes. San Antonio cruised past the Kings, 132–104. No Spurs starter played more than 24 minutes as the team was able to rest its regulars on the back end of a back-to-back.
Cam Spencer
Spencer scored in double-digits for the 38th time this season on Monday against the Chicago Bulls. The second-year guard scored 12 points behind two three-pointers along with seven assists in the Memphis Grizzlies 132-107 loss.
On Wednesday, the Grizzlies snapped their eight-game losing streak with a 125–118 home win over the Denver Nuggets. Spencer scored eight points and for the first time this season, did not record an assist in a game. The win marked the first time since February 2nd that the Grizzlies beat a team with a winning record when they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves. Spencer had 16 points and five assists in that game.
Matthew Wood
Wood tallied his 15th goal of the season on Tuesday night in the 4-3 shoot out win over the Winnipeg Jets. It's the fifth goal this month for the rookie as the Predators snapped a two-game losing streak.
Tage Thompson
Thompson did not record a point in the Buffalo Sabres’ 2–0 win at the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday. The Sabres currently hold a four-point lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning for first place in the Eastern Conference.
Tyrese Martin/Andre Drummond
Martin did not dress for the Philadelphia 76ers 124-96 loss against the Denevr Nuggets on Tuesday. Martin, who is on a two-way contract, is eligible for just four more regular season games per Sixers beat writer Aaron Aaronson of the PhillyVoice.
Fellow two-way players Dalen Terry and MarJon Beauchamp scored eight points in 18 minutes and 16 points in 20 minutes, respectively, in that matchup against the Nuggets.
As for Andre Drummond, he scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. This comes just one game after logging 35 minutes, giving him 63 total minutes over the last two games, which is his highest two-game total since he played 68 minutes across two straight games back in November.
Liam McNeeley/Samson Johnson (G League)
For the first time since March 7th, McNeeley was back on the basketball court. The former Husky missed just over 10 days due to a left ankle sprain, made his return for the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets G League affiliate) against the Noblesville Boom (Indiana Pacers G League affiliate) and his former UConn teammate Samson Johnson.
McNeeley scored 19 points, including a trio of triples, while Johnson nearly recorded a double-double with eight points, nine rebounds, along with two blocks as the Swarm picked up the 111-107 home victory.
Tristen Newton (G League)
After spending a few days on the bench with the Houston Rockets following his call-up, Tristen Newton was reassigned back to the team’s G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. On Tuesday, Newton totaled 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 34 minutes, though the Vipers fell 108–104 to the Texas Legends (Dallas Mavericks G League affiliate).
Despite the loss, Newton and the Vipers secured a playoff spot in the upcoming G League postseason. Newton now joins James Bouknight in the playoffs after Bouknight and the Mexico City Capitanes clinched a berth this past weekend.
Jordan Hawkins
Hawkins checked in for the final five minutes of the New Orleans Pelicans’ 129–111 victory against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, and he made the most of those minutes. The 2023 National Champion scored five points behind a three-pointer and two free throws. The three-pointer was his first since he made two against the Sacramento Kings on February 9th.
Tyler Polley (G League)
Polley has not done much to get into the scoring column as of late. The former Husky has taken just three shots over his last three games, which has resulted in zero points.
