Football Adds Transfer DL
UConn’s defensive line is arguably the strength of the defense, and it added an additional piece in transfer DL Jack Barton. Barton, a 6’4” 265 lb grad transfer with one year of eligibility, spent five years at FCS Furman, before transferring to Georgia Tech in December. He re-entered the portal last week.
At Furman, Barton was a starter for the 2022 and 2023 season, where he totaled 55 tackles, 13 TFLs, and 5.5 sacks. Remarkably, he had a streak of three straight games with a blocked FG in 2022, ending the year with four blocked kicks, a school record. He was a two star recruit in the class of 2019, choosing the Paladins over FBS offers from Arkansas State, Army, Ball State, Charlotte, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, UMass, Southern Miss, and Western Michigan.
UConn returns three of four starters on the DL, losing Eric Watts, but also some depth pieces in Jaavon Brown and Collin McCarthy.
