UConn freshman center Eric Reibe has announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The 7’ 1” center from Hanover, Germany came to UConn by way of The Bullis School outside of DC.
In his lone season with the Huskies, Reibe was one of three Huskies to appear in all 40 games. He had 5 starts, covering while Tarris Reed Jr. recovered from injury. He averaged 5.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game on the season.
His playing time waxed and waned depending on Reed’s health and foul trouble. He had a great game in the win against Kansas, scoring 12 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in 31 minutes, and making a big bucket to put the Huskies up 3 with 2.5 minutes to go. He also scored 15 points in 28 minutes in the loss to Arizona, though he was outmatched on the boards. As the season wore on, his minutes declined, and his production did as well. He had only 33 points and 14 rebounds plus 21 fouls in 10 games in March and April.
Eric posted a statement to Twitter/X:
With Reibe and Elezaj’s transfer departures and Reed’s graduation, UConn has no centers left from last season’s roster. They don’t have any freshmen centers coming in, so the Huskies will look to the transfer portal to fill their minutes.
