UConn junior forward Jaylin Stewart has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Joe Tipton of On3.
The 6’ 7”, 225-pound wing played in 104 games for the Huskies. As a freshman, he helped UConn win the 2024 National Championship, and as a junior helped the Huskies return to the Final Four. UConn went 87-17 with Stewart in the lineup over his career.
He was part of an iconic UConn freshman class who dubbed themselves the ‘Fab Five’. When Stewart was on a recruiting trip to Connecticut, the other four members of UConn’s recruiting class (Stephon Castle, Solo Ball, Jayden Ross, and Youssouf Singare) all visited as well, and the group took pictures stylizing themselves in the image of Michigan’s vaunted 1991 class.
Jaylin averaged 4.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 14.2 minutes per game for his career. He made 24 starts, 12 each over the last two seasons. His minutes declined slightly from 17.8 to 16.3 per game this season, in part due to lower minute totals after he returned to the lineup in the NCAA tournament after recovering from a knee injury. He scored in double figures 12 times in his career, with a career high of 16 points.
One of Jaylin’s biggest games of his career came as a freshman, when he hit 3 threes in the Big East tournament finals in a five minute span in the second half, helping to turn a 5 point lead into a safe, double digit advantage.
Stewart hails from Seattle, Washington. He was a star at Garfield High School, where he helped the basketball team win two state championships. His second cousin is former UConn player and current Big East analyst Donny Marshall. His biological father is Lodrick Stewart, who played at USC alongside is twin brother Rodrick.
Jamar Jones, Jaylin’s stepfather, had this to say about the decision to enter the portal on Twitter/X:
