UConn added another valuable player to its roster today with the commitment of Wofford transfer Nils Wachowski. The 6’ 3” 183-pound junior played previously at UCF, and was born in Berlin, Germany. Read our full, in-depth Portal Prospect Profile on Machowski.
The staff was motivated to add another shooter and ball handler due to Solo Ball’s revelation that he would miss the upcoming season to recover from wrist surgery. Solo’s medical redshirt left Braylon Mullins, Silas Demary Jr., incoming freshman Junior County, and redshirt freshman Jacob Ross as the Huskies available in the backcourt. Enter Nils Machowski, who averaged 17.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in the Southern conference for the Wofford Terriers. He made 89 threes at a 39% rate against D1 foes this season, and in three different games he made more than seven threes.
Machowski played for the German youth national team at FIBA European championship tournaments in 2022 and 2024, as well as in professional leagues in Germany before coming to America for college. Notably, he played for the Alba Berlin youth team. His father, Sebastian Machowski (a professional basketball coach in Europe and Asia), also played for Alba Berlin at one point, as did UConn alumni and fellow German Niels Giffey. Wofford’s Nils was his team’s second leading scorer and helped lead the Terriers to a 19-13 record, 11-7 conference record, and the #2 seed in the SoCon tournament this past season.
UConn has now added two centers (Najai Hines, Oskar Giltay), a forward (Nikolas Khamenia), and Machowski from the portal this offseason. Indications are that the team will look for another forward in a reserve role before filling the rest of the available roster with players who project more as deeper depth and practice players.
