Coming from Toledo, new HC Jason Candle and his staff obviously have numerous midwest recruiting ties. Husky fans are seeing the fruits of those ties, as Farmington Hills, MI DL Treighjan Gibson committed to UConn. Gibson was on day one of his official visit when he made his decision, clearly impressed by what he encountered.
Gibson was offered in late March, and announced his visit just a week later. The Farmington Hills, MI native recorded 65 tackles, 17 for loss, nine sacks, two fumbles forced/recovered, a pass breakup, and a defensive TD, earning All-League and All-Region honors. His Orchard Lake St Mary’s squad went 11-2, winning a state championship.
Gibson has received offers from Kent State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Miami (OH), Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Army, UMass, and Navy, plus some FCS offers. He was scheduled to visit Central Michigan (June 11th), but it’s unclear at this time if he will keep the visit. It’s a big deal that he committed while having a visit to Central Michigan, as that’s the alma mater of his parents.
In speaking with Storrs Central, Gibson had this to say about his choice: “I chose UConn because as soon as I touched down the atmosphere of the players, coaches, and everything surrounding the program made it feel like home.”
