When a recruit drops a top 6 graphic with schools such as Missouri, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oregon, South Florida, and UConn, forgive me if I don’t hold high hopes for a commitment. Jason Candle and his staff say “not so fast, my friend,” as they land safety Alan Blackshere from Miami Carol City HS.
Blackshere’s offers have been a “who’s who” of FBS programs, with offers from North Carolina, SMU, Duke, Mississippi State, UCF, Pitt, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Nebraska, Michigan, Cal, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Tulane at various points in his recruiting.
Blackshere has the physical tools, standing at 6’4” 195, height that is a relative rarity for a DB. He is rated an 88 by On3, 87 by 247Sports, and 78 by ESPN (which uses a different rating system, typically add 10 to the score and then it’s in alignment with the other recruiting services).
Blackshere is scheduled to visit Missouri (June 19th), and North Carolina, despite not being in his top 6 (June 12th). It’s not clear if those visits will come to fruition, or if Blackshere will shut his recruiting down, but very impressive for Candle and his staff to get a commitment.
On his choice to commit, Blackshere told Storrs Central “I chose UConn because as soon as I got here they made it feel like home. I feel like this is the right place for me.”
