UConn football landed a big offensive piece, picking up a commitment from Mikey Vernon Jr, from Tampa, Florida. One of the earliest announced visits, Vernon has kept his UConn visit on the calendar since March. The Tampa native just went on a visit to Buffalo last weekend.

A potential gadget receiver at 5’9” 160, the speedy Vernon has offers from Toledo (his first offer, and from Candle), Pitt, Memphis, Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Jacksonville State, East Carolina, and several FCS offers. Vernon has one more visit scheduled for Georgia Southern (June 17th), but it’s unclear if that visit will remain.

Vernon had a big season for his Armwood squad, with 1,337 all-purpose yards, including 886 receiving yards on 55 receptions, and 14 total TDs. Vernon had this to say in speaking with Storrs Central: “the visit was amazing. I chose UConn because of Coach Candle and Coach Dixon (WR coach). The relationship they build with their players and the development they have is off the charts. The school fits me and also the offense they run, and I just gel with the vibe and players of the school.”
