Former MLB executive Tim Brosnan has been named the new Big East commissioner, succeeding Val Ackerman, whose tenure began at the league’s founding in 2013.
Brosnan spent 24 years with Major League Baseball starting in 1991, leaving as EVP and CEO of MLB Enterprises in 2015. He’s been consulting across the sports industry since then and was also leading Georgetown’s NIL efforts from 2021 to 2025.
As an MLB EVP, Brosnan reported directly to the commissioner and the owners’ board. His responsibilities included oversight of all league business functions, including broadcasting and media rights, licensing, corporate sales, marketing, events, production, and charitable efforts. He’s well-versed in media negotiations and is also credited with the formation of the MLB Network and the World Baseball Classic.
After leaving MLB, Brosnan began independent consulting, working with a long list of clients including MLB clubs, private equity companies such as Carlyle and KKR, sports leagues, and entertainment businesses like FanDuel and Activision. He was also acting CEO of a sports and entertainment hospitality group PrimeSport from 2016-2018.

Before MLB, Brosnan worked for the New York State Commission on Government Integrity. He was also appointed to the Sports Development Corporation for New York City by former mayor Michael Bloomberg. He’s served on a variety of corporate, university, and nonprofit boards, is a founder of two private schools for underprivileged children in NYC, and is a regular on Sports Business Journal's "50 Most Influential People in Sports" and Sporting News' “100 Most Powerful People in Sports,” with 20 total appearances across both.
As an undergraduate, Brosnan played baseball at Georgetown, where he was a four-year letter winner and captain. As an alumnus, he was on the Athletic Committee of the school’s Board of Regents and later became CEO of Hoyas Rising, “a private company which served as the external [NIL] arm for Georgetown Athletics,” until 2025.
"In our search for the next Commissioner of the BIG EAST, we prioritized finding someone with extensive experience in the area of revenue generation," said Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., President of St. John's University and Chair of the conference's Board of Directors, who was the head of the search committee.
