UConn Adds Another OL from Portal
UConn shored up its offensive line with the addition of Syracuse OL Jayden Bass. The Springfield, MA native stands at 6’6” 309 lbs, and played in two games during his redshirt freshman season with the Orange, getting time in the first two games of the year against Colgate and Western Michigan. Bass committed to the previous coaching staff of Dino Babers, and went through spring practice before entering the portal. Since entering the portal, Bass received offers from Liberty, Marshall, UMass, UTEP, Akron, Old Dominion, and some FCS offers.
Bass was a three star recruit out of Springfield Central HS, and had actually gone on an official visit to UConn in 2022 before ultimately choosing Syracuse. He also had offers from Air Force, Akron, Arizona State, Army, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Liberty, Marshall, UMass, Navy, Old Dominion, and Temple, plus some FCS offers. He was an All-State performer for the back-to-back-to-back MIAA Division 1 champs, before ultimately falling in the final his senior year (2022). Bass was also a basketball player at Springfield Central, where he was second team all-conference.
Springfield Central is arguably the best program in Western Massachusetts, having not lost an in-region game since 2016. They put several players into P4, so this is a pipeline that would benefit the Huskies if it can be opened. Bass joins Charlotte transfer Ja’Khi Green as OL transfer additions. Being a redshirt freshman, he is not someone that needs to play immediately, and can learn behind fellow tackles Valentin Senn, and Chase Lundt.
