Team Canada recently announced that they’ll be adding two former UConn Huskies to their 2024 Olympic roster in Aaliyah Edwards and Kia Nurse, as announced by the Canadian Olympic Committee on Tuesday.

Aaliyah Edwards, currently in her first WNBA season with the Washington Mystics after being drafted sixth overall in April, is set to participate in her second Olympics with Canada after being part of the 2020 squad. The rookie forward is currently averaging 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while leading her team with 1.1 blocks per game.

Kia Nurse, in her sixth in the WNBA and her first with the Los Angeles Sparks, will be making her third Olympic appearance after participating in the 2016 and 2020 editions of the tournament. This season, she is averaging 9.1 points and 1.6 assists per game.

With the inclusion of Edwards and Nurse alongside other WNBA talents, Canada hopes to exceed their historic fourth-place finish of the 1984 edition, their highest achievement in the tournament to date.

The women’s basketball tournament of the Olympics will run from July 27 to August 11. To accommodate the players participating in the tournament, the WNBA intends to take a month-long break from July 21 to August 14 to allow the participants to be wholly focused. Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille will host the preliminary phase before the final phase shifts to Paris and Bercy Arena.  Canada’s first tournament game will be on July 29 (11:15 a.m. ET / 9:15 a.m. MT) against host France.
