Gandy Malou-Mamel Shines as Ireland Secures Fifth Place in U20 Eurobasket Tournament

On Sunday, 2025 commit Gandy Malou-Mamel along with the U-20 Ireland team took care of business by beating Ukraine 74-66 to secure a 5th-place finish in the FIBA Women’s U20 Eurobasket tournament. 

Malou-Mamel, a 2025 commit and top 68 player according to ESPN’s top 100 women’s basketball rankings, capped off her amazing tournament with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds, her third of the competition, to secure the win.

Throughout the tournament, Gandy displayed many amazing performances, averaging 10.6 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game, while also leading her team in efficiency and rebounds per game. Her strongest performance came in the first game of the tournament where she recorded her first double-double with a dominating 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks; leading her team in all the listed categories.

Ireland’s 5th place finish, as well as the performances of other star players such as Sarah Hickey and Grace Prenter, marks the start of a new generation of stars for the countries giving them the hope of a bright and illustrious future in women’s basketball competitions.
