Huskies Headed to "Storrs North" for Bowl
After some nerves heading into the last week of the season, as there was the possibility of there being several more eligible bowl teams than slots, things fell into place for UConn; the final tally was 82 eligible teams for 82 slots. It got even more better, as the Huskies earned a bid to the Wasabi Fenway Bowl taking on North Carolina, in a game where if fans are willing to brave potential cold weather, would be easy for travel.
North Carolina, at 6-6, will be coming in without HC Mack Brown. It has been rumored that former New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick has been interviewed, but as now, no offer has been made. UNC has struggled defensively, allowing 70 points to James Madison, and over 40 points three times.
The Huskies got unfortunate news Friday evening, as 2nd leading rusher Durell Robinson announced his intention to enter the transfer portal, as did DBs Reggie Akles, and Jarvarius Sims. While it remains to be seen who, if any, other players enter the portal, they’re in good shape as of now. UConn went 0-4 this season against P4 opponents, 0-3 against the ACC, all one-score losses (Duke, Wake Forest, Syracuse), and the Huskies have one more chance to get a victory.
It’ll be an opportunity for the Huskies to pay one more game for their senior leaders, including Jelani Stafford, Dal’Mont Gourdine, Chase Lundt, and Joe Fagnano. Who will start at QB is unconfirmed, but it will likely be Fagnano for his final college game. After the UMass game, Coach Mora disagreed with the idea that bowl practices are important for younger players, he views it as an opportunity to honor seniors.
Stay tuned to Storrs Central for all things Fenway Bowl.
