Huskies Add First Commits Out of Transfer Portal
With the transfer portal opening on December 9th, there was a mad dash to get players offered and then on campus to visit. The Huskies hosted numerous portal recruits, and they hit paydirt, earning commitments from Brown OL Hayden Bozich, and Arizona State/SMU/Texas Southern DL Stephon Wright.
Bozich was first, and the 6’7” 315 lb OL appears to be ready to fill either tackle slot that is being abdicated by Chase Lundt and Valentin Senn. Originally from Steubenville, OH, Bozich was a preseason Phil Steele All-Ivy team selection, and ended the season earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy. Bozich was a top performer on the OL, especially in the pass block, as he earned a PFF grade of 75.3, including a high of 89.6 against Bryant, where the Bears threw for 298 yards. Brown struggled in the Ivy, going 3-9 with the lone conference win against Cornell. Bozich chose the Huskies over offers from Bowling Green, Middle Tennessee State, Old Dominion, and Western Michigan.
Highlights
Wright, a four star recruit coming out of HS in the Class of 2019, originally committed to Arizona State. After two years in Tempe, he moved to SMU, where he would spend another two seasons, totaling 15 tackles in five games in 2022, but did not see any game action in 2023. At Texas Southern this season, Wright notched 17 tackles, 5.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks. He will look to fill the numerous voids on the Husky DL, with Dal’Mont Gourdine, Jelani Stafford, and Jack Barton all exhausting their eligibility, and Pryce Yates in the portal. Wright chose the Huskies over offers from Akron, Arkansas State, Buffalo, San Diego State, UAB, and UTEP, plus some FCS offers.
