Huskies Add Defensive Pieces out of Portal
UConn stayed hot on the recruiting trail, gaining commitments from two more players. The first, a DB from Georgetown in Kolubah Pewee Jr and Nebraska DT Vincent Jackson. Each player helps fill need and depth at positions that were hit hard by graduation.
Pewee Jr, a 5’11 170 redshirt senior, committed to Maine out of HS, before heading down to DC. He totaled 26 tackles this past season, with one INT. He notched 25 tackles, including two for loss in 2023. Pewee Jr had a highly graded 2023 according to PFF, with a 77.8 overall, and 79.4 coverage grade, but those numbers dipped in 2024. In 2024, he allowed 15.4 yards per catch, and just 89 YAC in 500 snaps, his most as a Hoya or Black Bear. The UConn secondary has holes to fill, and Pewee Jr should be able to compete for time. He chose the Huskies over offers from Bryant, Furman, Kent State, and Tennessee Tech.

Like Stephon Wright, who committed on Monday, Jackson will also look to fill a spot on the DL. A redshirt freshman from Harrisburg, PA, Jackson saw action in 56 snaps this season, his high being 11 against UTEP and Northern Iowa. He totaled just one tackle, coming in a game against Purdue. Jackson was a three-star recruit coming out of HS, the highest rated recruit ever to come out of Central Dauphin HS. He originally committed to Syracuse, before flipping to Nebraska. Remarkably, Jackson didn’t play football until his senior year of HS. In that year, however, he totaled 50 tackles, 20 for loss, and 8 sacks. He is raw, but with ample playing time available, the Huskies will look for him to develop.
