UConn men’s basketball visited Georgetown and fought through a competitive first half to run away with it in the second and win 68-60 at Capital One Arena.

Alex Karaban dropped 19 points to lead the Huskies to victory. He got his first bucket on a putback lay-up and helped the Huskies take control in the second half as the junior hit 4-of-6 threes and was 7-of-10 from the field. He hit all four of his attempts in the second half and also set his teammates up well, finishing with four assists.

UConn was executing at a high level offensively, hitting 52% from the floor in a first half where they led by as much as nine and many different guys got involved.

Samson Johnson got it going early with some great dunks before Solo Ball began hitting his threes and Aidan Mahaney made a few nice plays as well. The game was close for the first 10 minutes before the Huskies pulled away late in the first half.

The Hoyas fought hard to keep it looking competitive at the break, pulling it to within five, but UConn jumped out to an 11-1 start to the second half after a few nice plays from Hassan Diarra and led by as much as 23 as Karaban began raining threes on them and the stops started piling up. Georgetown went 8-of-24 from the field in the second half and finished 39 percent on the game.

That 23-point lead got a little too close at the end, as UConn ended the game with some sloppy play, but it was an otherwise sharp performance from the Huskies on the road to avoid a losing streak. Dan Hurley’s squad has a week off before its next game on Saturday when they host Creighton at Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is at noon and the game will be televised on FOX.
