Not content with one transfer commit that played in the College Football Playoff, UConn went out and grabbed one more in former Penn State S Tyrece Mills.

Mills took a more circuitous route to Penn State, attending JUCO Lackawanna College, the alma mater of former UConn QB David Pindell, before committing to Penn State in the fall of 2021. He recorded 35 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and a sack, most of which coming in the opening game of 2021 against Iowa Central CC.

At Happy Valley, Mills redshirted his first season in 2022, then playing in six games in 2023, recording two tackles, mainly on special teams. He played more in the rotation in 2024, playing in 13 games, totaling 15 tackles, and arguably his best moment, an interception in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State at the end of that game. He played 89 snaps on defense this season, and was well above average as a tackler per PFF, albeit in limited action. He will compete with returnees Lee Molette III and Malachi McLean, as well as fellow transfers Kamo’i Latu, and Kobi Albert for time
