The first University of Connecticut baseball team to make the College World Series took an idiosyncratic path. UConn’s 1957 College World Series appearance came as a result of that era’s unique circumstances.
Between 1947 and 1974, teams reached the College World Series by being selected as the champion of one of eight geographic districts throughout the United States.
Each district had its own selection criteria. Some held a postseason tournament or championship series.
