Clingan makes it back-to-back double-doubles, Bouknight on an offensive tear
Donovan Clingan
On Sunday, Clingan posted his second straight double-double and 15th of the season after scoring 21 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in a 117-110 win at the Sacramento Kings. It was an incredibly efficient night for DC as he shot 6-of-9 from the field, 1-of-2 from three and sank a career-high eight free throws after going a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. Clingan recorded eight double-doubles as a rookie year last season in 67 games and already has 15 in just 40 games this season.
Stephon Castle
After scoring just eight points this past Saturday, Castle bounced back on Monday with an 18-point and eight assist effort in the San Antonio Spurs 123-110 victory at the Utah Jazz. Castle shot 5-of-9 from the field, 1-of-4 from three and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. The very next night, Castle struggled from the field, hitting just 5 of his 19 shots, including 2-of-8 from behind the arc and 1-of-1 from the free throw line, finishing with 13 points. Castle did bring down seven rebounds and dished out eight assists, but the Spurs fell to the Rockets 111-106 on the road. Castle has scored double-figures in 31 of 35 games so far this season.
Tristen Newton (G-League)
Newton posted his 10th 30+ point game of the season this past Tuesday after scoring 32 points in the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets G-League affiliate) 126-119 victory over the South Bay Lakers (Los Angeles Lakers G-League affiliate). The two-time NCAA champion shot 12-of-20 from the field, 3-of-7 from behind the arc and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. He also had 6 assists and 3 steals. It’s Newton’s third 30+ point game with the Vipers. The first seven such performances came during his time with the Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves G-League affiliate).
James Bouknight (G-League)
Bouknight has been on an offensive tear over his last three games, scoring at least 25 points in each contest. This past Tuesday, he tied a season-high 28 points behind six three-pointers in a Mexico City Capitanes (G-League team, but not affiliated with an NBA team) 113-101 victory over the San Diego Clippers (Los Angeles Clippers G-League affiliate).
Samson Johnson (G-League)
This past Monday, Samson Johnson scored 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting while grabbing three rebounds to help lead the Noblesville Boom (Indiana Pacers G-League affiliate) to a 126-102 win over the Delaware Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers G-League affiliate). The offensive effort from Johnson was one point off tying his career-high. Johnson currently ranks second in the G-League in field goal percentage (71.4%).
Liam McNeeley (G-League)
On Monday, McNeeley scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets G-League affiliate) 116-114 victory over the Birmingham Squadron (New Orleans Pelicans G-League affiliate). The former Husky shot 5-for-11 from the field, 2-for-8 from 3 and 1-for-1 at the free throw line. He also dished out six assists. The Swarm are now 6-2 with McNeeley in the lineup this season.
Cam Spencer
Spencer reached double-figures in consecutive games, both this past Sunday in the Memphis Grizzlies 126-109 win over the Orlando Magic in London, England and in last night’s 124-122 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks. In those two games, the 2024 National Champion averaged 10.5 points per game on 6-of-14 from the field (42.8%), 4-of-9 from three (44.4%) and 3.5 assists per game as the Grizzlies (18-24) have lost eight of their last 11 games.
It is worth noting that since Ja Morant returned to action this past Sunday, Cam has come off the bench and seen a dip in his minutes. In the six games that Morant missed from January 4th-January 15th, Cam started all those contests and averaged 29.6 minutes per game. In the last two games with Morant in the starting lineup, Spencer has come off the bench and is averaging 19.5 minutes per game.
Andre Drummond
Drummond has been in and out of the lineup over the past week and a half—all due to coach’s decision—but in the Philadelphia 76ers most recent game this past Tuesday, he was inserted into the starting lineup in the 76ers 116-110 home loss to the Phoenix Suns. He scored eight points, blocked one shot and grabbed 15 rebounds, his most since November 23rd when he grabbed 24 boards against the Miami Heat.
Tyrese Martin
This past Sunday, Martin scored 11 points behind 4-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the Brooklyn Nets 124-102 loss at the Chicago Bulls. It’s the eighth time this season that Martin connected on at least three, three-pointers in a single game. Martin is shooting 35.3% from three this season.
Jordan Hawkins
Last night, Hawkins did not play (via Coach’s Decision) in the New Orleans Pelicans 112-104 loss to the Detroit Pistons. Hawkins did see action in the Pelicans previous seven games, including this past Sunday when he played 13 minutes in the Pelicans 119-110 loss at the Houston Rockets. Hawk scored six points on 2-of-6 shooting, 1-of-2 from three and 1-of-1 from the free throw line. He also picked up a season-high three steals.
Tyler Polley
Polley returned to the floor this past Sunday after missing three straight games due to a right hip injury. The former Husky was in the starting lineup for the College Park Skyhawks (Atlanta Hawks G-League affiliate) 112-103 loss to the Maine Celtics (Boston Celtics G-League affiliate). Polley scored five points on 2-of-5 shooting, including 1-of-4 from three in 17 minutes.
Andre Jackson Jr.
Last night, Jackson Jr. played six minutes and scored three points on 1-of-3 shooting from three behind the arc in the Milwaukee Bucks 122-102 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Jackson Jr. has made one three-pointer in each of his last two games and in three of his last four games overall.
Tage Thompson
Thompson scored his 26th goal of the season this past Tuesday in the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 win at the Nashville Predators. Thompson is currently tied for 7th in the NHL in goals.
