Liam McNeeley commits to UConn
Dan Hurley's newest addition to the roster is Liam McNeeley, a Class of 2024 high school recruit who was previously committed to Indiana. The five-star prospect was in the top 20 of every major recruiting ranking and chose the Huskies over offers and interest from Kansas and Michigan. McNeeley’s great-grandfather, grandfather, mother, and two uncles played at TULSA, TCU, Rice, SMU, and Baylor, meaning Liam will be the sixth member from his family to play Division 1 basketball.
The 6-foot-7 Texas native visited campus from Sunday to Tuesday of last week, right after playing in the Jordan Brand Classic, where he earned MVP honors for his team after dropping 25 points. He also had the chance to play alongside a future teammate in Ahmad Nowell, the Huskies’ incoming UConn point guard.
Liam McNeeley/Ahmad Nowell JBC Highlights
He’s demonstrated an elite shooting ability and high basketball IQ from the wing position and should be a candidate for early playing time from the moment he arrives in Storrs. Adam Finkelstein of 247 Sports reports that he’s a versatile scorer with a vast offensive arsenal who shined for a nationally-ranked Monteverde team and shot over 40% from three in his NIBC and EYBL seasons.
After winning their second national championship in a row, Hurley hasn’t been shy about wanting to go for the three-peat. He and his staff closed quickly on their first transfer target out of the portal in Tarris Reed and have a couple of additional roster spots to fill. They’ve had Saint Mary’s transfer Aidan Mahaney on campus for a visit and also have Dayton sharpshooter Koby Brea visiting this weekend.
