The UConn women’s basketball team secured a big addition on Sunday morning with Kaitlyn Chen announcing that she’ll be a Husky next season, per her Instagram page.

Standing at 5-9, the former Princeton Tiger has had quite the career up to this point. The graduate transfer is coming off an excellent season that saw her average 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 34.9 minutes per contest.
On top of what Chen was able to do this season and in the NCAA Tournament, she certainly has had quite the resume up to this point. With a 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year selection and being the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player from 2022-2024, she’s been one of the most dominant players in the conference. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Ivy League’s rules against fifth-year eligibility, Chen looked to continue adding to her impressive list of accolades on another college roster.
With her announcement on Sunday, Chen became the first transfer portal pickup for UConn since Lou Lopez-Senechal in 2022. Her acquisition brings the Huskies to 14 scholarship players.
Notably, the UConn women struggled tremendously with injuries last season, and adding a player of Chen’s caliber to an already strong 2024-25 unit gives this team some massive additional firepower to their backcourt. With the departure of Nika Muhl to the WNBA, she easily fills in a now-vacant spot in this Huskies lineup with KK Arnold and Paige Bueckers as the team’s primary ball-handlers.
