Four Huskies Punch Tickets to FIBA World Cup Semifinals

While many Husky fans were either sleeping or just getting their morning started, Naphessa Collier scored 19 points on an efficient 9-of-13 from the field to lead Team USA to FIBA World Cup Semifinals after taking down Team Hungary 108-56. Breanna Stewart netted eight points along with three rebounds and two assists, while Paige Bueckers posted seven points and three assists for the Americans in their 5:30am ET tipoff.
The United States recorded a FIBA World Cup quarterfinal record 31 assists in the 52-point win. Team USA will play the winner of Australia-Spain on Saturday at 2:00pm ET.
Team USA has won 34 straight FIBA World Cup games as they are just two wins away from its fifth straight gold medal and 12th overall.
Dorka Juhasz, who had a strong tournament overall, had just two points on 1-of-12 shooting against Team USA but did pull down eight rebounds and dish out four assists. Despite being eliminated, Juhasz led Hungary to a historic FIBA World Cup tournament. The former Husky recorded three double-doubles and led the team in points (12.6), rebounds (10.4), and steals (1.0) per game while shooting 42.2% from the field. Juhasz’s second double-double of the tournament (19 points, 16 rebounds) led Hungary to a 71-67 victory over Nigeria in 1998, securing the country’s first FIBA World Cup win in 28 years.
Two days later, she scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in an 82-73 win against Korea. Then this past Tuesday, she scored in double-digits for a fourth straight game (10 points, seven rebounds) in an 84-63 win against Japan to help Hungary qualify for its first FIBA World Cup appearance in 40 years.
Even though Hungary came up short against Team USA on Thursday morning, Juhasz was all smiles when talking about her countries remarkable run:
GABBY WILLIAMS AND TEAM FRANCE OFF TO SEMIFINALS
Behind a big second quarter effort, Gabby Williams and France are headed to the FIBA World Cup semifinals after taking care of business against China on Thursday morning, 90-61. Williams scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. She ranks fourth in the tournament in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game.
France will play host Germany on Saturday at 11:45am ET.
