How UConn Football Propelled the Careers of Lou Holtz, Sam Rutigliano, and Kirk Ferentz

Lou Holtz, Sam Rutigliano, and Kirk Ferentz have several things in common. They all spent formative years in their football careers in Storrs. Holtz and Rutigliano served as assistant coaches for Rick Forzano in 1964 and 1965. Ferentz played his college football at UConn (1973-1976) and served as a graduate assistant in 1977. All three of these coaches earned Coach of the Year honors at the college or professional levels.
