Stewart Caps Off Historic July, Collier/Lynx Own WNBA's Longest Win Streak
Breanna Stewart
Stewart recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the third time this season, first on Thursday (26 points and 11 rebounds) at the Las Vegas Aces and then on Saturday (14 points and 11 rebounds) at the Phoenix Mercury.
In a rematch of the Commissioner's Cup Championship matchup earlier this summer against the Aces, Stewie scored 11 of those 26 points in the fourth quarter. Four of her five baskets brought the game to either a one-possession game or a one-point deficit. However, the Liberty were never able to take the lead after A'ja Wilson converted a clutch-and-one layup to extend the Las Vegas lead to five with just under a minute to play. The Aces also went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line during that same stretch to seal a 104-99 victory.
In 10 July games, Stewart averaged a career-best 26.4 points per game, the highest scoring average of any month of her career per @NYL_Stats/X. She is the first player in WNBA history to average 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game while shooting 40% from three on 3+ made 3’s per game in a month (minimum five games played).
Before the Liberty (17-13) defeated the Phoenix Mercury 94-92 on Saturday, August 1st, Stewart spoke with the ESPN WNBA Countdown crew about what she has been most proud of regarding her play this season.
Stewart then went out on the floor and backed that talk up after posting her 11th double-double of the season. She also continued to get it done defensively by recording two blocks in the contest. Her second block was the 196th of her Liberty career, making her the franchise's all-time blocks leader. Stewie went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, including two free throws with 12.7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to put New York up 94-90.
Napheesa Collier/Dorka Juhasz
The Minnesota Lynx own the longest winning streak in the WNBA this season after defeating Kia Nurse and the Toronto Tempo on Thursday, followed by the Indiana Fever on Sunday afternoon, to extend their run to 10 consecutive victories.
Naphessa Collier scored 16 points on 7-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three, with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 22 minutes. Dorka Juhasz tied her career high with four three-pointers, tying her season-high 12 points. Juhasz also made four three-pointers back on July 8th in an 86-80 Lynx victory against the Connecticut Sun.
Kia Nurse scored three points with three rebounds and two assists as the Lynx easily handled the Tempo, 104-72.
Collier flirted with a triple-double on Sunday in the Lynx’s 108-100 win against the Fever. She finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds and seven assists. However, the most significant takeaway from Collier's performance was arguably her season-high 31 minutes on the floor. This was her fourth game back since making her 2026 season debut after recovering from two offseason ankle injuries. In her first three games, she averaged 23 minutes per contest, making Sunday's season-high 31 minutes an encouraging sign as the Lynx ramp up her playing time.
Dorka Juhasz scored two points with two steals in 11 minutes off the bench.
In four games, Collier is looking like her usual All-Star/MVP candidate self as she is averaging 18.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. The Lynx are 4-0 since her return.
Paige Bueckers/Azzi Fudd
On Friday night, the Dallas Wings dropped their second straight game after falling to the Washington Mystics 81-75. Paige Bueckers scored a team-high 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including two triples, two assists, and one block in 34 minutes. Azzi Fudd tallied eight points on 3-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-8 from three, along with two blocks.
Both Bueckers and Fudd made a few big plays late in the fourth quarter. Fudd drove the baseline and made a layup to put Wings up 68-67. Later, Bueckers took a handoff and converted her own layup to cut Dallas’ deficit to 77-75 with 19.8 seconds to play. However, the Mystics closed the game on an 8-2 run over the final two minutes to secure the six-point win.
The Wings ended their two-game skid on Sunday by defeating the Connecticut Sun 83-63. Fudd led the way from beyond the arc, scoring 12 points on four made three-pointers, and Bueckers tallied a season-low six points in a game that the Wings controlled for much of the second half. Dallas broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Sun 24-8 and cruising the rest of the way.
Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss. Nelson-Ododa was coming off arguably the best game of her career after posting her third double-double of the season against the Chicago Sky on Thursday. In that game, she tied a season-high 16 points with 11 rebounds, career-high four steals and tied a season-high three blocks in 25 minutes. The Sun also dropped that game, 94-88.
Aaliyah Edwards has now missed four straight games due to a knee injury.
Golden State Huskies
It was a full “Husky” team effort in the Golden State Valkyries 96-79 victory against the Toronto Tempo on Sunday night. After missing one game due to condition, Gabby Williams returned to the floor and finished with 15 points, highlighted by a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Williams’ breakout year from three-point range continued, with Sunday marking her 11th game this season with at least three made triples. The former Husky had reached that mark just eight times over her previous seven seasons combined.
Tiffany Hayes also netted 15 points along with four assists and a season-high three steals. Hayes has reached double-digits three times over her last five games and eight times overall this season.
Kiah Stokes contributed with eight points, tied a season-high 11 rebounds, and five blocks. Stokes is averaging 1.8 blocks per game, the second-best mark in the WNBA behind only A’ja Wilson.
Kaitlyn Chen scored two points with four assists. Kia Nurse contributed four points and two assists for the Tempo.

Anthony Kay
The Stony Brook, New York native led the Chicago White Sox to a series victory against the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays after tossing a career-best 6 ⅓ innings, allowing seven hits, zero runs, one walk, and three strikeouts in a 9-1 win on Sunday.
After retiring the first batters, Kay ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth inning after the Rays loaded the bases with just one out. However, Kay was able to get Jonny DeLuca to pop out to short and Ben Williamson to ground out to end the threat unscathed. The left-hander retired the side in order in the fifth inning.
Tampa Bay loaded the bases again in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Williamson grounded out on a fielder's choice to end the frame. Kay started the home half of the seventh inning by striking out Jonathan Aranda before issuing his first and only walk of the afternoon to the number nine hitter, Nick Fortes. Manager Kevin Cash then decided to pull the former UConn star, concluding the best start in Kay’s major league baseball career.
Kay is now 8-5 on the season with a 4.01 ERA.
